Puppy diarrhea triage
Puppy diarrhea: emergency signs
Puppies can become unwell faster than healthy adult dogs. Diarrhea should be judged with age, vaccine status, hydration, appetite, energy, blood, and vomiting.
What to check in a puppy
- Check how young the puppy is and whether vaccinations are complete.
- Look for blood, watery diarrhea, vomiting, low energy, or refusal to eat.
- Watch for dehydration signs such as dry gums, weakness, or reduced interest in drinking.
Puppy red flags
- Emergency vet now for repeated diarrhea with vomiting, weakness, or collapse.
- Emergency vet now if blood appears and the puppy seems flat or painful.
- Call a vet today if diarrhea repeats, lasts more than a few hours, or appetite drops.
